Training for new and returning councillors

WALC is offering eleven training sessions on “Councillor Fundamentals” for new and returning local councillors following the elections on 6th May. This is also open to councils tat have not had elections this year.

In the first instance, these eleven events are only open to members of councils in membership of WALC. We may seek to open up future events.

These sessions (all eleven of which are the same in order to reach a broad range of councillors) cover the roles and responsibilities of the five components of the council, the importance of the law, meetings, agendas and minutes, delegation, a council plan, governance and transparency and are delivered by local council trainer, Kim Bedford FILCM.

They are offered at various times of day (morning, afternoon, evening) to try to appeal to councillors with different circumstances and will be delivered by Zoom.

Should the events become fully booked, we will seek to arrange more a bit later in the year. We will also be offering sessions on different topics.
